THE SKINNY Overall , I ’ m very happy with the Spirit ST tyres after 4000km . The tyre wear and condition for the distance and type of riding they ' ve been subjected to is exceptionally good at both ends of the bike . I checked the pressures every 1000km and the pressure drop was insignificant , so they show no signs of damage even after running over some dubious looking debris on the road and a few mis-timed potholes . The question I have now is how long they will last . I ’ m hoping for at least 10,000km , which is a bit of an ask for my typical riding . Some might say that ' s not enough , but I think they will easily do that . Only time will tell - I ' ll let you know when they ' re worn out . Asked if I would put them on again by a fellow rider , regardless of the cost , I said I would without any hesitation , simply because they just grip everywhere .

I take it easy for those first few kilometres to get my head into the game and let the tyres warm up … when , hello , a car will stop suddenly in front of you . This happened to me and these tyres just tracked true , letting the ABS wizardry do its job , and they did their role too by pulling me to a stop . No dramas , no sliding down the road , just predictable control every time . Cornering is sharp and precise at both low and high speeds and the feedback through the bars felt like the tyre was biting into the road well . There were no periods I experienced where the feel was vague , even during unexpected torrential rain . I ' ve ruined a good set of road tyres on gravel roads , so I was a bit gutted when we had to ride some gravel on this trip . Then I was elated to see they were still in great condition and looked no more worn than at the last inspection .
