At the rear , the Paralever single side swingarm rear suspension has a feel and control which is best described as inelegant , particularly when considering the style and theme of this 50th Anniversary model . But perhaps this is by design – maintaining a traditional riding feel ? A combination of plentiful crank and flywheel mass , no slipper clutch , the directness of shaft drive and the high unsprung weight associated with the shaft design leaves the rear suspension action a little on the agricultural side . Somewhat conversely this feedback manages to add rather than detract from your riding pleasure . The suspension action ’ s intrusion actually adds character and real personality to the bike . I enjoyed the “ raw ” sensation , except when the roads got truly bumpy and the rear shock lost composure . At least it ’ s adjustable for spring preload and rebound damping control . Adjusting the rebound to one turn out from full hard settled the rear down and was helpful for control , but did not aid comfort . It was fun chopping down through gears and making the rear tyre chirp a little , something that can ’ t be done now-a-days on bikes with ABS and slipper clutches .
