I t ’ s funny the random ways in which you can come across some very cool motorcycles . Just before Christmas I was tiki-touring around the South Island on my BMW R80GS and happened to pop into Wanaka Powersports to buy a waterproof jacket . I was heading up the west coast that day and the forecast was looking more than a little damp . I started talking to one of the guys about bikes , as you do , and the conversation turned to Royal Enfield and the Interceptor ( Wanaka Powersports sells Royal Enfield , Indian and MV Agusta among other brands ). It turned out they ’ d built a very trick Interceptor flat-tracker for the Royal Enfield Busted Knuckle Build-off . It was out the back ... and would I like a look ? Abso-bloody-lutely .
BUSTED KNUCKLE BUILD-OFF Royal Enfield ’ s dealer bike build-off was the inspiration for this bike build ,
explained Mitch Scammell , the guy responsible for creating this build-off bike . “ We had to enter our idea to build a bike based on a sketch , which we sent to Royal Enfield . We liked the idea of building a flat-tracker based on the Interceptor 650 , so we submitted a sketch of what we wanted to build – and got the go ahead . We had three months to create the bike , in time for the Australian Motorcycle Show ”, said Mitch . As the bike was relatively new , Mitch said the hardest part of the build was trying to get parts in such a short amount the time . This is where Mitch worked with Wanaka Powersports ’ suppliers to get the job finished in time .
