link added to the rear suspension. It needs to be mentioned that James is only 15, tough as, but less than 60kg dripping wet after a huge feed of ‘Maccas’... which of course he never eats when training. Apparently. I rode the 250F first. Straight up, the lowering link was a revelation. KTM’s MX bikes are quick turning machines, but if they have one nemesis it is their ability in deep, soft sand. Without careful ride height set-up and use, they can have a tendency to tuck the front and this is definitely undesirable. However, with the lowering link fitted I had much more confidence to attack the deep sand. The threat of tucking the front had disappeared and yet all the renowned agility was still there. Whether it is truly suitable for hard-packed terrain I can’t comment on, but it is certainly ‘the go’ for sand. The suspension action is compliant, progressive and resisted bottoming well – no complaints! Likewise the brakes, ego’s and general build quality is excellent. This just leaves the motor which is class leading smooth, linear and fast with great ride- ability, not to mention light weight. The SX250F is a fantastic package, and in general KTMs have a top-of-the-line build quality – there is a reason KTM dirt bikes sell so well. We wish James the very best of luck for the coming season and beyond. ~ JOCK MCLAUCHLAN KIWI RIDER 45
