LOCATION The track is located 9km west of Jacksons , near Lake Brunner ( Moana ) on NZ ’ s wild West Coast , just off SH73 . There is no gentle warm up on this one , as soon as you leave the tar seal you ’ ll transition to a solid grade 3 track in all of about 10 seconds .
TERRAIN AND GRADING The first three kilometres of the route winds its way up and over the western end of Bald Range . This section is a rocky 4WD track that often has many washouts , ruts and large rocks . As you turn each corner the challenges will be revealed , requiring you to think fast to stay on a good line . Once you drop into the valley floor the remaining 6km of the route is a mixture of well-established 4WD track , plus a handful of rocky sections and water crossings . At times of typical river levels , the entire track can be considered a Grade 3 overall . However , if river levels are above normal , then this can easily bump the grading up to a 4 or even a 5 .
TIME TO RIDE Ride times will vary from rider to rider . To reach the AdventureToken placed at the end of the track , a skilled rider will comfortably get there in under 30 minutes . The track conditions and river levels can vary your time , especially if you are the first one through after a big flood and the riverbed sections are virgin boulder fields .
