SECOND OPINION

KTM ’ s 300EXC has some amazing credentials , has been around a very long time and is almost universally loved by all riders of all skill levels . Whether you are a world extreme enduro star or just a keen trail rider , the 300 will do the business in an effortless , no fuss fashion . Of late , the 300 has been fuel injected with a system that KTM calls TPI . From past experience the TPI engine is highly fuel efficient and runs well . But it ’ s not , perhaps , as crisp as a well carburetted machine of prior times . There is , however , a multitude of power valve adjustment and some fine tuning of the TPI can be done for those looking for a different power delivery . Despite my experience of the earlier TPI machines not being as crisp on the fuelling , watching Tom ride around for KR photo ’ s , it sure did sound crisp . Maybe my TPI thoughts were unfounded on this new model ? When it was my turn for a blast , the first thing I noticed , even before I ’ d really thought about the power delivery , was “ bloody hell these forks are nice and plush ”. At this stage I didn ’ t know it had the Cone-Valve forks ... they felt so good I stopped
