Run make its much-anticipated return . This social ride , sponsored by German motorcycle tyre brand Metzeler , has now been running in New Zealand for over 20 years . With more certainty over holding events now in place , the biggest uncertainty lay with Mother Nature , after some truly horrible weather over much of the North Island during the past Summer . But , fortunately , the weather turned on an absolute stunner of a day , swelling entrant numbers to over a hundred , and ensuring a great day ’ s riding . Traditionally taking place in the upper North Island , this year ’ s event set out from freshlyminted CF Moto dealer , AAG Motorcycles in Howick , East Auckland . After sign-on and briefing , riders were given a map , with the route heading south east along the coast , down to Kaiaua , across to Te Kauwhata , then finishing up at the historic Rangiriri Hotel . The two-hour ride was the perfect mix of tight and sweeping corners , through some of the most picturesque landscapes in New Zealand . On arrival at the Hotel , riders were greeted with more sunshine , where they were able to grab a meal and a drink in the beer garden ,

providing the perfect backdrop to relax and enjoy the company of other riders . In addition , trade displays were set up at the hotel , where riders could check out the latest motorcycle gear and accessories , from leading moto brands Arai , Ixon , Rjays , Muc-Off , Bull-It , Ogio , Maxima , Forma and Kryptonite . And , of course , the Metzeler tyre range . These brands also made up the bulk of the prizes on offer , drawn at the end of the event , adding an element of excitement to the day . As in the past , the major prize was a set of Metzeler tyres to suit the winners ’ bike . And the lucky recipient this year , was Murray Hudson from Auckland , who was keen to fit a set of SPORTEC M9RR to his Ducati Monster 1200S . With the weather and the great turn-out of ( happy ) riders , the 2023 running of the Metzeler Elephant Run , couldn ’ t have gone any better .
