I felt when I first glimpsed the unexpected bright colours and curves of John Britten ’ s beauty of the same era , which also broke new design ground , but the similarities stop there . Like the Britten , the Buckley is another totally original New Zealand motorcycle , barrels , pistons , rods , gearbox , fuel tank , chassis - all utterly unique .
GRAND PRIX DREAM The BSL 500 was built from Bill ’ s late 80s dream , by the boffins and aces at Buckley Systems , including an extraordinary three-cylinder , two stroke 500cc engine , with its own unique exhaust soundtrack - caused by the firing
sequence of two cylinders fire at once , and then the other alone . This 500cc two-stroke was the brainchild of racing obsessed , famed and hugely awarded Kiwi businessman , plus Speedway Hall of Famer , Bill Buckley , and was designed , named , and built , as a showcase for his engineering company . The engine was designed in 3D CAD software ( SolidWorks ) and manufactured using unique casting methods for the engine barrel components , reducing the time and expense associated with conventional casting .
