Held as we were going to‘ virtual print’ this issue, we will have a full report in the next issue so here’ s a taster for the followers of Hard Enduro. The brainchild of Taranaki enduro legend, Dougy Herbert and his amazing team of hardcore volunteers, the Korito Technical Matrix has been recognised as a class act and recognised as a round of the Hard Enduro Nationals. As the name and intro suggest, it is for the hard men of off-piste riding and they can ride the weapon of their choice, be that trials machines for the tight and technical areas or motocrossers to make up time by pinning the ears back on the fast bits. Many have doctored their rides to fall somewhere in between in the hope to edge the rest. For those who doubt they are up to the challenge, don’ t despair. There are Gold, Silver and Bronze courses, as in hard as nails, pretty tough and the rest of us, so give it a go and see what your plans for the next round will be … The Hard Enduros are not just full-tilt at all times. The risk versus reward card means riding smart as well as hard to come out on top. Several of the gnarlier sections have alternative routes that, while easier and involving less risk, take more time, so kind of like a longlap penalty situation but done at the rider’ s discretion or total lack thereof.
