INDIAN GOES BIG BORE FOR 2020
I
ndian Motorcycle has announced its
heavyweight lineup for the 2020 model
year, and while the new models are set to
pack plenty of features on in particular caught
our eye – the 116cu-in Thunderstroke V-twin.
Available in select models only, the Thunderstroke 116
charges in with a full 1901cc of grunt for the first time.
Available straight from the factory as the standard
engine of choice for the majority of Indian’s lineup
(including the Springfield, Chieftain, Roadmaster and
all Dark Horse variants) the new 1901cc air-cooled
V-Twin engine features a new high-flow cylinder head
– delivering a truly stump-pulling 168Nm of torque.
Also new for 2020, and adding to the growing line
of Dark Horse Indians is the Roadmaster Dark
Horse, which brings the blacked-out aggressive
attitude seen in the Dark Horse range to Indian
Motorcycle’s premium tourer for the first time.
With blacked-out finishes and just enough chrome
to stand out from the 2020 lineup, the Roadmaster
Dark Horse features a streamlined fairing, slammed
saddlebags, 19-inch front wheel with an open fender,
an extended reach Rogue gunfighter seat, blacked-
out engine and matte paint colour schemes.
Indian Motorcycle has also tweaked its brilliant Ride
Command system for the coming year. Still measuring
seven inches, with handy glove-touch technology
(meaning you don’t need to pull your gloves off to use
the touchscreen system), Ride Command now features
a new quad-core processor to provide the fastest
infotainment experience available. It now also includes
traffic and weather overlays, so riders can plan their
ride to avoid traffic and poor weather conditions.
Other updates to the Indian heavyweight lineup
for 2020 features additional updates include
chassis changes to the Chief Dark Horse and Chief
Vintage, which will now share the same chassis
as the Springfield and Springfield Dark Horse to
improve the handling along with a new adjustable
rear suspension for both Chief models. The
Springfield and Chief Dark Horse will also come
standard with a 17-inch front wheel for improved
stability, while Roadmaster receives a lighter weight
and redesigned trunk rack for added style
