only laid over ‘sliding grip’ a little weak. Mud
riding can be done if the base is firm… by that
I mean something like mud-covered gravel,
but braking grip on mud is limited. To be fair
though, it does well for a 50/50 dirt/road tyre.
On a dry road the feel and grip are great, but
like all compromise tyres caution is wise on
wet seal.
I currently have this tyre on my Africa Twin
and it started life with me on the Far North
Adventure ride. The course had everything
possible to test a big bike adventure tyre
from sand, mud, gravel and grass and really
the E0-7+ came through with flying colours.
As I said above, I rode with a pillion which
added to the challenge because you can’t
attack somethings quite as aggressively
34 KIWI RIDER
and yet I never wanted for straight line grip.
Braking in mud was really its only weakness.
Sure, I could have run a more aggressive
Mitas, such as the E0-9 that works great off-
road, but, the majority of riding I do is tarmac
and gravel based, so most of the time the E0-
7+ is a better tyre.
Now, some 700km later it still looks like new,
which given a big adventure bike’s ability to
completely destroy a knobbly rear tyre in less
than 100km is an excellent result. Most riders
should expect excellent mileage with this
tyre.
In a nut-shell, the E0-7+ is great on a dry
road, great on gravel and very hard wearing…
perfect for what it’s designed for.
