here was a time when
motorcycle racers didn’t look
like school boys and went by the
names of Wayne, Randy, Kevin
and Eddie. They rode ill-tempered,
screaming banshee motorcycles that’d
spit the rider off with a moment’s
inattention. The 1980s and 1990s of
motorcycle Grands Prix racing were
frantic and sensational. One of these
was Aussie legend Wayne Gardner.
It’s been a long time coming, but
1987 500cc GP champion Gardner is
the focus of a new movie - Wayne.
The preview to the motion picture
chronicling the Aussie’s racing
showcases archive racing and family
footage, and modern day interviews
with Gardner and his contemporaries.
Beginning with his formative
motorcycling days in Wollongong
where he bought a half share in a bike
for $5 through to winning the 1987
championship and post-retirement,
the movie looks to be a must for any
motorcycle racing fan.
The movie was premiered over the
weekend but is due to be released
in Aussie cinemas on September 6,
hopefully we’ll get it shortly after.
Gardner is a something of a polarising
character with fans but we can’t wait
to watch the full movie. Click the link
