My Ural Gear-Up is 1700mm wide so the 96ST has a bit of room to spare Simple but effective height adjustment my needs just sitting there. Ready to go for $5200 inc GST, the deal was done with a quick zap of the credit card before heading to VTNZ for rego and WOF. Then it was on to Tokoroa to help out at one of Sean Clarke’s FTE events. As the new trailer was empty, its maiden load was a deck full of Rata firewood. Now, as some of you will know, Rata is a heavy wood when it is wet but the KEA towed well and the tipper made unloading it super easy. All of KEA’s trailers are made in its Hamilton factory by a team of people who seem to take pride in their work. I had the opportunity to watch them assemble trailers the other day, and I was impressed with the whole process. Everyone knew exactly what was being built and what they had to do to get it done. Most of us have seen KEA trailers all over the country, but once you have one you notice them even more. The team has just manufactured 40,000 units, and this trailer was on display at this year’s Fieldays. So, after nearly three years of use the only thing that has gone wrong is an LED indicator bulb blew a couple of weeks ago. That’s it. 82 KIWI RIDER Single wheel adjustable slot, a very handy accessory Other details I like about my trailer are the braked jockey wheel which also allows it to be wound down at the front – the dropped front end encourages water to roll straight off. I like that the rear tailgate has two wires which keep it attached so it can’t get lost. But it’s the versatility of the trailer that’s its best point. I have recently been using the single bike rack attachment, which costs $150 plus GST. This has been very handy especially with some of the bigger road bikes we pick up and drop off for testing in the magazine. Take a look at the KEA website – www. keatrailers.co.nz – to see what they have on offer. The range is a big one from domestic use through to vehicle and excavator trailers. If you need something more specialised they’ll even make you a custom trailer too. Tell them Vege sent you.
