f all the things I review, books are the
most difficult. No, not because I find
them hard to read – you’re a funny guy
– but because they’re completely subjective.
One man’s meat is another man’s poison, as
the saying goes. Then there’s the fact most
book reviewers feel compelled to show how
good a writer they are. A review is often a
work of the writing art in itself. This is not one
of those reviews.
No, this is a review in the Kiwi style. No fancy
shit, just a straight forward review of a book
written by someone who can do the word-
smithing better than me and, as much as I

hate to admit it, is also funnier than me.
The book in question is The Wisdom of
the Road Gods by Boris Mihailovic. You may
recognise the name from Kiwi Rider’s own
pages – he’s a regular contributor. You may
also know him as the keyboard behind Dear
George, that satirical spin on the MotoGP
circus – which is read and loved by that very
same circus. Well, most of them.
I’ve always thought that it takes a life lived and
a hatful of regret to have tales worth telling.
Boris does, indeed, have some tales worth
telling. If you’re a puritan who hates swearing,
