The new Lambretta V200
Special certainly has
some classic style about
it compared to some
other offerings out there
eing the owner of a classic Lambretta I
was more than keen to compare a modern
twist-and-go incarnation of a Lambretta
to my old flying ‘stroker. There seems to be a
plethora of these easy to use commuter scoots
on the market today, but the new Lambretta
V200 Special certainly has some classic style
about it compared to some other offerings out
there.
Whilst Italian in origin, the Lambretta name is
now owned by the Swiss Lambretta Consortium
and the Austrian KSR group and the design was
penned by Austrian company Kiska which also
designs for other Euro manufacturers KTM,
Husqvarna and CFMoto.
The overall look of the design is well executed
and there’s the same look to the head and tail
lights, front guard, leg-shield and rear body
profile that is synonymous with the Lambretta
GP of old. It is larger than the classic version,
having 12-inch wheels and wider tyres over the
old 10-inch classic configuration, taller headset
and ‘bar height, and a fatter rear bodywork.
But all this is to allow for all of today’s safety
requirements, as well as the commuter’s
expected conveniences like under-seat storage
which can house a full-face helmet, and a built-
in front (albeit slim) locker with USB port for
keeping the urbanite’s phone battery topped
up while getting to and from work. The seat’s
a large, wide affair that’s plenty comfortable
for slightly longer journeys. Pillions will also be
happy and there’s a couple of nice swivel-out
‘pegs to cater for them.
