WAY ROUND 2020
E
pic Events is no stranger to, well, epic
adventure rides set around Aotearoa.
While the hard-core Kreiga Dusty Butt has
only just wrapped up, the Epic team isn’t resting
on its laurels and is already gearing up for its
next big adventure – the annual Kriega Long Way
Around, scheduled for April 4-5.
Set in the picturesque volcanic plateau
surrounding Taupo, this two day adventure takes in
over 700km in the stunning Central North Island.
The main track for the 2020 edition will be
made up of a good mix of winding back country
roads, gravel roads, and reasonably well formed
off-road tracks. Riders also have the option of
tackling challenge sections to add some rougher
riding into the mix, and can expect steeper tracks
and slippery areas which will be even more of a
challenge if it’s a wet weekend.
The entire route is navigated using GPS which
allows riders to travel at their own pace and, if
16 KIWI RIDER
they want, take their time to enjoy the stunning
scenery.
Epic Events has also said there will be a back
up vehicle provided which can also carry your
overnight luggage if required.
After the first day of adventure riders all get to
catch up and relax for the night in an awesome
rustic lodge with a well stocked bar, delicious
meals, and a fantastic atmosphere.
After a big day of riding, this is a fun social night
with stories to tell and some great giveaways
from Kriega! Sunday’s route, naturally, includes
even more epic riding and will be slightly shorter
than Saturdays ride to allow riders to get back to
the finish line in Taupo at a reasonable hour in
the afternoon.
If this sounds like your kind of adventure, or if
the Dusty Butt was a little too hard-core for you,
make sure you check out the Epic Events website
to get your entry in.
