DUCATI DIAVEL 1260 PRODUCTION BEGINS Ducati’s second-generation power cruiser – the Diavel – has just gone into production at the company’s Bologna-based factory with the bike expected in New Zealand in later this year. The new Diavel ups the game from the previous iteration first seen in 2010, with a bigger engine, more tech and even more attitude than we’ve seen before. Now nestled at its heart is the new Testastretta DVT 1262cc L-twin which debuted on the Multistrada 1260 last year. Ducati claims the engine pumps out a healthy 159hp (117kW) at 9500rpm and 129Nm at 7500rpm, with the engine delivering steady pulling power right from the low-medium rev range to ensure prompt engine response as and when needed. Styling has also received a substantial update for the second-gen Diavel, with the bike seemingly losing a little of its jagged edges in favour of slightly softer lines. The silhouette remains largely the same and, as always, the Diavel retains the signature Ducati Red trellis 22 KIWI RIDER frame (which has seen a significant revision for the new generation bike) and minimalist subframe which made it stand out when it first appeared on the scene. A big step up for the Diavel is the inclusion of cornering ABS thanks to Bosch’s six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which links in with the Diavel's TFT dash, traction control and ABS allowing for total control of the electronics package. As is normal for Ducati these days, the Diavel 1260 will also be available in a sportier S version featuring top-tier Öhlins suspension, special Diavel S only wheels, a beefier Brembo M50 braking system replacing the M4.32 calipers of the base bike and Ducati Quick Shift Evo (which allows for both up and downshifts) as standard equipment. Ducati Australia and New Zealand expect the new Diavel will arrive in Australasia in May, with pricing to be announced closer to the date."
